    Description

This is a rare Edo Japanese Katana long blade in great condition with beautiful hamon- wavy line formed during tempering, signed by famous 17th Century sword maker Kanenaga.
It measures 28.5 inches from tip of the blade to the hand guard, with inscription of “骏河国住兼命” ( Suruga no kuni Kanenaga) on the tang. The inscription was done in a graceful style of Japanese calligraphy with fluid and deep lines. The blade is truly a work of art.
Kanenaga was active during era of Genroku (元禄 1688-1704), part of the Edo period (江戸時代, Edo jidai) or otherwise called Tokugawa period (徳川時代, Tokugawa jidai, 1603 - 1867). The reigning emperor was Emperor Higashiyama (東山天皇).
Suruga Province (駿河国, Suruga no kuni) was an old province in the area that is today the central part of Shizuoka Prefecture (静岡県, Shizuoka-ken).
The Saya sheath is not original but it’s a nice wooden one with black lacquer and a narrow flat wooden ring for hanging under the belt. The blade does not go in all the way due to less curvature compared to the saya, with only the habaki exposed. May need a saya with shorter sori. Total length is 42.5 inches sheathed. Tsuka alone is 10.25 inches long.
The wooden display stand is not included in sale or shipping.
