This nihonto is in fantastic shape, and includes a full set of original koshirae which is rare. The fuchi, kashira, koiguchi, kojiri, kurikata are all matching steel fittings. The blade is very wide and very thick, a massive war time style blade similar to the Kamakura era rather than the thin or sleek blades that were usually present in the Edo period. Many older style, nostalgic pieces were being made at this time due to increased foreign presence in Japan and a renewed desire to return to more traditional Japanese roots.
Blade has the usual age related flaws like a few small grain openings in the shinogi. Otherwise, no nicks, chips, bends, twists, hagire.
It is mumei (no signature) but the NBTHK papers (included) attribute it to the Kaifu Forging school.
The Samurai Shokai studio shots are much better than my in person pictures, the in person shots are basically proving I own this piece.
