Description
Blotting Brush Adult Size for use with Dr Phillips Technique. The Phillips’ Blotting Technique is a method of mouth care that actually removes plaque. Plaque is the sticky, white substance that forms on teeth, between them and in the area between the teeth and gums, called the sulcus. Simply put, plaque is the cause of dental disease. Whereas regular brushing moves this plaque around the mouth and under the gums, the Phillips' Blotting Technique is the only dental hygiene method that actually removes it from the mouth and this is the key to total oral health for a lifetime.
The Phillips' Blotting Technique itself is based on capillary action; that is the principle at work when a sponge soaks up liquid or when paint is drawn up into the bristles of a brush. Capillary action lifts and holds plaque in the brush so that it can be removed.
Of course, no matter how well you have cleaned the teeth, your mouth still remains 90% dirty, as teeth occupy only 10% of the surface of your mouth, so it is just as important to clean the gums, cheeks, roof, floor and tongue as well.

Instructions for the Blotting Technique:
Hold the brush with a pen-like grip. This helps brace the two end fingers on the chin.
Place brush in mouth at 45 degree angle to the teeth and gums. Using firm aggressive pressure begin to dab or “blot” the tooth/gum junction. Increased pressure will result in better cleaning and faster healing. Pain and bleeding will rapidly diminish if good cleaning is performed.
After cleaning a small area, sip the brush dry or rinse under faucet and tap off excess water on sink. Repeat steps 1, 2 &3 until entire affected area is clean.
For soft tissue; cheeks, tongue, gums; gently swab tissue. Again after cleaning small area, sip the brush dry or rinse under running water and tap off excess on sink. Repeat until all soft tissues are cleaned. This will also assure a pleasant breath.
The teeth can also be cleaned by pressing the bristles directly on tooth surface and blotting or dabbing – do not use a brushing motion.
Bristle flossing is very effective and can be done by pushing the tip of the bristles between the teeth. This is also very effective for healing gum disease
