Antique Japanese Samurai Sword Katana Nihonto Signed Naotane Taikei In Koshirae.
Fresh vintage sale find. My understanding is that this piece and another with matching koshirae were brought back from WWII And kept in the mans possession until being donated to a vintage shop. I’ve done enough research to just know what the name says. I will provide the best pictures possible of areas of concern and make no claim regarding the flaws or their type.

PLEASE NOTE. I AM NOT MAKING A CLAIM THAT THIS IS AN AUTHENTIC NAOTANE BLADE. I DO BELIEVE THIS IS AUTHENTIC NIHONTO BUT I HAVE NO INFORMATION OTHER THAN THAT.
I HAVE EXHAUSTED MY OWN RESOURCES TRYING TO DETERMINE IF THE SIGNATURE IS GIMEI AND IT CERTAINLY COULD BE. MAKE YOUR OWN ASSESSMENT PLEASE AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF.
Saya: Good condition, no major issues, some chipping around the mouth area.
Blade: decent polish, a few small dings that definitely can be polished. No major flaws that I can see. Sharp blade. I am uploading more pictures of any defects that I can see. Please take note that the polish isn’t in perfect condition and there are a few small nicks in the edge of the blade. There is some scratching on the side of the blade from moving in and out of the saya. My understanding is that a proper polish will remove those. Please forgive my lack of knowledge of most of the terminology.
Nakagojiri: has been shortened by someone over the course of it’s life.
Hardware fits loosely, will need some attention from expert.
Ito: wrapping seems tight and in good shape, I cannot tell any issues.
