    Description

    Just back from Alaska and I will try to catch up listing some of the Alaskan Artifacts.  One of my favorite artifacts is the bird "stunner", which is a small interchangeable blunt head generally affixed to the head of an arrow for the specific purpose of hunting birds with the intent of stunning them on impact.  By stunning the bird, rather than impaling it on a traditional arrowhead, the bird could be dispatched without any blood loss.  Blood was an important nutrient and protein source.  The stunner was just one of the varied arrowheads Ancient Yupik Hunters utilized, turning their bow and arrow into a highly adaptable modular weapon system.
